How to Make Chicken Shashlik at Home

Shashlik, which translates to "skewered meat," is similar to a shish kebab and is a favorite food in South and Central Asia. Although traditionally cooked with slices of lamb, chicken kebabs have gained popularity. With the addition of soy, the marinade has a subtle Chinese influence. It's crucial to strike a balance between this recipe's sweet, sour, salty, and spicy components.

Nowadays Shashlik is also made with chicken, beef, or pork. Skewers are threaded with alternating pieces of meat and vegetables. It is then grilled on a tandoor or cooked in a pan.

The cooking style of Chicken Tikka and Chicken Shashlik is quite similar but there is a difference in flavors. For male chicken, tikka chicken is marinated with yogurt, oil, and spices. Sauces are not used in chicken tikka, but the marinade of shashlik consists of either tomato paste or tomato sauce.

Steps to Make Chicken Shashlik at home

To make them easy to skewer, cut your chicken and vegetables into large parts.
Make a paste out of the ginger, garlic, and fresh chillies using a blender, then add it to a big bowl.
Add the tomato ketchup, vinegar, chili powder, garam masala, soy sauce, and mustard paste.
Prior to including the chicken and vegetables, combine them to make a beautiful zesty marinade. Stir everything together and let it marinate for 30 to 60 minutes.
When you're ready to cook, alternately thread pieces of meat and vegetables onto the skewers.
The skewers can be cooked on a BBQ or in the oven by placing them on a baking sheet. Cook the vegetables for 15 to 20 minutes or until they are tender.
Serve hot over a bed of boiled rice.

Making it into a Curry

Three cut cloves of garlic are cooked in hot oil for one minute. Please take care not to burn them.
Blend two tomatoes until smooth, then add them to the garlic. To reduce the acidity of the tomatoes, cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
Cook for an additional 10 minutes, or until the chicken is thoroughly cooked and the sauce is thick and sticky but the veggies still have some crunch.
Place the prepared shashlik over a drip tray and pour any juices that may remain on top.
Add some steamed rice to the dish.
